OS X Leopard Upgraded!!

January 3, 2008

Well, I’ve finally taken the plunge and upgraded to MacOS X Leopard from Tiger and I’m happy to say that so far it’s been a fairly painless operation. After backing up my tiger system to an external drive using SuperDuper, I bit the bullet and slotted in my Leopard disc. I opten for the ‘Archive and Install’ system of installation – in the hope that all of my settings and applications would be copied over as leopard was installed… and indeed it was.

The whole process took about an hour but everything appeared to be in place. TextMate worked straight away but I found that many programs required their serial numbers re-submitting. Transmit was one such program. Parallels, although the leopard version did require full re-installation, as did Fireworks 8. Photoshop appears to be running without hitch.
All of my Mail data was preserved as was ical data.

All in all it was an effortless upgrade and now that Time Machine has completed its first back-up (which took about an hour) all appears well with the world.

Of course, it’s early days yet, but the system appears to be running smoothly and I must say that networking has improved immensely over tiger.  When I looked to connect to my ethernet drive I was happy to find that Leopard had done so automatically and to any other computers it found on the network.
